History of Westminster Abbey

Edward the confessor built Westminster Abbey from 1045 to 1050. In the 1298 the fire destroyed roof of the church. From 1245 to 1517 the church was rebuilt in French-gothic style. Since William the Conqueror in 1066 to Elisabeth II in 1952 each of Britains monarchs have been crowned and pronounced king or queen in Westminster Abbey. Much of the Abbey has it stands today was built for Henry III between 1220 and 1272. There is a grave yard into the church, where many famous people were burying.
